A new annual event is scheduled to kick off on 14 and 15 October 2021: Utrecht Science Week. The central theme is: ‘Creating a healthy, sustainable society together’.

Thursday 14 October will be dedicated to ‘Sustainable Living’, and Friday 15 October will focus on ‘Healthy Living’. Both days will offer a rich and varied programme with leading keynote speakers, such as Mariana Mazzucato, and inspiring sessions. The finals of the Utrecht Science Student Challenge will also highlight young talent with a mission to create a healthier and more sustainable future world. In this competition, student teams from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Utrecht University and ROC Midden Nederland will collaborate on innovative solutions to concrete issues concerning healthy and sustainable living. The awards will be presented by special guests including the King’s Commissioner for the province of Utrecht, Hans Oosters.

On ‘sustainable’ Thursday, 14 October, you can immerse yourself in two programmes:

  • HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht’s Sustainability Day, with workshops on the themes of smart mobility and the sustainable city and plenary lectures by speakers such as Bas Eickhout and Derk Loorbach;
  • Utrecht University’s annual Pathways to Sustainability Conference: a day with morning lectures by speakers such as Maarten Hajer and Valerie Masson and various break-out sessions in the afternoon.

On ‘healthy’ Friday, 15 October, you can join in three thematic debates with top speakers such as Andrea Maier and Pauline Meurs. During the USP Talks, we will update you on innovations from Utrecht Science Park with a global impact, like test robot ‘The Beast’ from the Hubrecht Institute and Genmab. If you would like to know how millenials are aiming to shape the healthcare of the future, come to the Youth Debate including Talitha Muusse, and listen to the professionals of tomorrow.

In short, it will be a mix of information, inspiration and interaction that invites listeners to learn, to inspire and to meet each other, online and partly live.

Registration

The invitation with more information about the programme and how to register will follow after the summer holidays. Save both dates in your diary and keep an eye on our website and social media after the summer.

Utrecht Science Park is flourishing.

This can be seen in the scientific achievements and successful collaboration between knowledge and care institutions and specialised companies, as well as the arrival of new parties – both established names and start-ups – all with grand ambitions and a passion for innovation. Together, we are working to create a healthy, sustainable society.

In the years ahead, Utrecht Science Week will make the value and progress of the joint efforts at Utrecht Science Park more visible to a wide audience of stakeholders and interested parties.
