BILTHOVEN, NETHERLANDS, MARCH 2024 - Bilthoven Biologicals (BBio) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jurgen Kwik as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Kwik brings extensive experience in the Life Sciences sector. His tenure includes leadership positions such as the leader of the Global COVID-19 Vaccine Program Office and, more recently, Global Head Portfolio Strategy & Site Operations; Infectious Diseases & Vaccines R&D at Janssen.

Bilthoven Biologicals and the Institute of Life Sciences & Chemistry of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences have signed a cooperation agreement at the ILC Career Day of the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.

At BBio we make reliable vaccines in a high-quality production facility. The safety, efficacy and identity of each production batch is checked by the Quality Control (QC) department. Not only end products are tested, all surfaces, the water and air in the production areas are also tested at QC. This is how we measure the quality of our products.

Bilthoven Biologicals (BBio), and Batavia Biosciences (Batavia), entered into a collaboration earlier this year whereby Batavia is manufacturing viral vaccines and viral vectors in a cGMP manufacturing facility (“Amalia facility”) from BBio.

Last week the Dutch Minister of Health, Ernst Kuipers and the Indian Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, New & Renewable Energy, Bhagwanth Khuba, made a visit to Bilthoven Biologicals (BBio) to view the progress made on the Pandemic Preparedness program.

The framework agreement is aimed at pandemic preparedness including manufacturing and supply of viral vector vaccines in emergency situations in Europe.

BILTHOVEN, The Netherlands, June 30, 2023 — Bilthoven Biologicals (BBio) today announced that it is one of the selected companies in Europe to be granted a pandemic preparedness contract by the European Commission. The framework agreement is aimed at pandemic preparedness including manufacturing and supply of viral vector vaccines in emergency situations in Europe.

The Serum Institute of India Pvt., Ltd., the Supervisory Board and CEO of Bilthoven Biologicals B.V. have agreed that the CEO steps down as Managing Director on March 31st, 2023.

In November 2022, a Bilthoven Biologicals employee became infected with the polio virus during his work. The company then ceased activities with active polio virus. An investigation into the cause and improvement actions were successfully carried out. On February 6, the company will restart production of polio vaccines.

This message is an update after the polio virus infection of an employee at Bilthoven Biologicals. After an employee of Bilthoven Biologicals became infected with the polio virus, he was placed in isolation. On January 11, 2023, the employee was able to get out of isolation again. The employee no longer carries the virus and can therefore no longer infect others. The virus was also not found in the contacts of the employee that was examined.

One of Bilthoven Biologicals’ (BBio) employees became infected with the polio virus during his work. Until the cause is completely clear and all processes have been checked again, BBio will cease activities with active polio virus.

A new annual event is scheduled to kick off on 14 and 15 October 2021: Utrecht Science Week. The central theme is: ‘Creating a healthy, sustainable society together’.
